THE
HISTORY OF KOSHO KARATE
KoSho opened its doors, the first time, in Conover, North Carolina
in 1974, and here in Tucson in March of 1983. The name KoSho when
translated means The Old Pine Tree School. It was derived
from the days in early Okinawan history when karate was forbidden.
At that time martial artists had to practice and teach secretly at
hidden locations in the pine forest. By doing so, those martial artists
kept the old ways of their arts from being lost.
Through
its history, KoSho has been charged with a similar task: keeping the
old ways alive, while developing new and modern ways to study and
train.

WHAT
MAKES KOSHO KARATE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER SCHOOLS?
Regardless of the style of martial art, such as Karate, Tae Kwon
Do, Kempo, Kenpo, Jujitsu, Judo, Aikido, Kung Fu or American Freestyle,
the effectiveness of the style or school is directly related to the
knowledge, experience and talent of the head instructor and his staff.
No one art or style is superior to another.
How
the talent, experience and knowledge of Shihan Linebarger be superior
to another or to others?
-- With more than 30 years of continual study, training and teaching
martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Kobudo, Judo and
Aiki-Jujitsu
-- More than 20 years of competitive experience, winning 13 different
world titles, competing with and serving as captain of the USA Karate
Team
-- Teacher and coach of hundreds of state, national and world champion
competitors
Shihan
Johnny Linebarger and his staff of talented and experienced instructors
are what make KoSho Karate different from other schools. Another difference
is the overall goal of the school and that of the students. Students
want to be able to protect themselves.
The competition
arena is one of the proving grounds for martial arts training. It
is a safe and controlled environment that allowed martial artists
to pit skill against skill and test effectiveness of training.
Another
proving ground is the streets of most any city in the country. Shihan
Linebarger spent 9.5 years in law enforcement with the US Air Force.
He has helped develop defensive tactics programs for law enforcement
officers, using the same techniques and self-defense techniques taught
every day at KoSho.
